How We Met

Dean & Laurie met on the Bumble dating app in January 2023 and began a text conversation after swiping right on January 18 ( Below you will see photos of the first text messages as well as Dean and Laurie’s Bumble profile picture). You’ll notice that Laurie identified herself as Denise (her middle name) only because this was her first time getting on a dating site and she was scared to use her first name.

Text messages became phone conversations and phone calls led to a breakfast meet and greet on Sunday January 29. Our first dinner date was an early Valentines Day themed dinner on February 10, 2023 at Seasons 52 restaurant by Perimeter mall, with desert at Café Intermezzo across the street. The date went well so Laurie invited Dean to church at Passion City, 515 location the following Sunday. They held hands for the first time during prayer and again during worship.

Dean lives in Milton and Laurie in Powder Springs, about an hour’s journey (on a good day) from each other. Their dating experience happened mostly on the phone during the week and in person on weekends.

The Proposal

The proposal was a complete surprise. Dean did not tell anyone his plans. He proposed during a family Christmas gathering with Laurie’s kids and grandchildren on Sunday December 17, 2023. The engagement photo shoot took place on Friday February 2, 2024.
